Through this lecture for qualified soroban instructors, I’ve again recognized how wonderful soroban is. At the same time, I’ve learnt a lot of new things such as how I can better myself and improve communication ability. When I first tried face-to-face teaching method, I felt a bit weird to see the beads moving from the other side. However, I got used to it little by little as I kept trying to carefully watch them. I will make an effort everyday and hope someday I can fully assimilate those techniques.
We talked about lifelong learning and I totally agree with the idea.
To teach multiplication and division, I got to know the ways in which students can easily understand. There were some other new techniques that I had heard of but didn’t know how to actually use such as Modoshi zan and Kyurisshou. It was so productive that I could finally learn them.
As for the child psychology and education, there were so many things that I agreed with and that gave me an opportunity to densely think about my own child rearing. I deeply appreciate for that.
Lastly, I came to understand how soroban works to the right brain in a good way. I’m very keen on right brain now. There were many interesting stories about effect of soroban to brain as well as how right brain functions; about subconsciousness and good effect on prefrontal area, and etc.
Taking this opportunity, I hope I can polish various sides of me.
Thank you very much.

Thank you for the opportunity to take the lecture for qualified soroban instructors.
I really enjoyed all the topics: history of soroban, how to teach, child psychology and school management, and etc. I have had something unclear but through the lecture I understood those points and also learnt a lot of new things. I’m sure I can utilize the knowledge to my future activities.
I’m determined to show and convey the goodness of soroban education to as many people as possible and contribute to disseminate soroban.

I learnt a lot in the Lecture for Qualified Soroban Instructors. I found my techniques were still not good enough and some critical points that I need to work on in order to manage my own school. I’m strongly hoping to brush up my skills.
About the contents of the Lecture, the essential points were clearly sorted out, which I’d like to always keep it at hand as my textbook. The teachers theoretically explained about techniques that I had ambiguously understood although I had known them from my experience. I feel I have gained much confidence in those skills. There were a lot of new knowledge I learnt and I’m going to keep it in my mind. I’m really grateful that I took the lecture, and with the skills and knowledge I gained there I will try to make my school more productive. Thank you for your continuous support.
S.Y (Okazaki)
I’m relieved that I managed to finish the course from the Grade 2 to Master. I used to practice soroban more than 40 years ago and it came into my life again. It feels like I found my life anew. In order to open my own school, I found that I would need to work more on three points; teaching, management and promotion. It was very imposing that although soroban techniques are important to teach, the process contains an element of fostering children at the same time. Therefore we need to encourage them to gain confidence by praising.
I myself need to study more to better myself. As I learnt in the Lecture, I will pursue the lifelong learning and challenge myself to improve skills. Thank you.

Although I had used soroban just to calculate before, I again recognized how wonderful soroban was through the Lecture on its history, child psychology, management and influence on brain and many other new facts. Also I met some people who had already opened their own schools. It was quite fruitful that I got to know about what’s being an instructor and relationship with children. I noticed that using soroban by myself and teaching children how to use it is totally different and could be tough to overcome. However, I would like to learn more about what we inherited in a long history of soroban and pass it down to as many children as possible.
